The present article explored students’ responses to teachers’ scaffolding in the course English Writing. Participants were first-year students of English Faculty at a University of Foreign Languages. Specifically, 94 freshmen participated in the survey. Ten of them joined the following in-depth interview to have insights to the issues under investigation. Data were analyzed, synthesized following the sequential mixed-method. The findings reviewed that the application of scaffolding in English Writing was rather frequent. The teaching procedure included three steps instead of five. Therefore, the results were not very effective.
