BUILDING AN ENGLISH - VIETNAMESE PARALLEL CORPUS OF CONTEMPORARY ART TERMS

The study aims at building an English-Vietnamese parallel corpus of contemporary art terms to meet the current pressing demands in Vietnam for the translation of art-related documents from Vietnamese into English and vice versa. To achieve its aim, the study adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research method to examine the original English texts and accurately translate them into Vietnamese, as well as generate the corpus linguistic database statistics. The generated English-Vietnamese parallel corpus of contemporary art terms consists of about 130,000 words. Some implications regarding the English-Vietnamese translation of texts related to contemporary art are also suggested for translators as well as teachers and students in Vietnamese art schools.

ONLINE AUTONOMOUS LEARNING BY UPPER-SECONDARY EFL STUDENTS: ONLINE RESOURCES AND PERCEIVED AFFORDANCES AND CHALLENGES

This study investigated autonomous English learning implemented by EFL students at an upper-secondary school concerning the utilization of online resources and the perceived affordances and challenges. To be specific, this study aimed to find out the frequency of   upper-secondary EFL students using online resources for their language learning out of the classroom and the constraints that the students encountered when conducting their online autonomous learning. Quantitative research design was employed in the current study with the use of questionnaire. The participants of the study were 158 students at Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. The findings revealed the prevalence of such online resources as online dictionaries, videos on YouTube, and social media. Conversely, radio, discussion forums, and emailing received the least preference. The most frequently-reported affordances related to stable Internet connection, whereas the most frequently-reported constraint was financial resources. From the findings, implications for teaching and learning with online resources and suggestions for further research were put forward.

PROPOSING GOOGLE SITES APPLICATION PROCESS FOR BUILDING E-PORTFOLIO IN TEACHING

Portfolios can provide information about students’ individuality, products, as well as the learning process. It serves as a means of teaching, testing and evaluating tool in educational activities. E-portfolios can surmount the amount of traditional portfolio’s inadequacies toward the great collected data, ensuring the timeliness, efficiency, and the relevance in the current digital transformation period. On the basis of searching about the features of Google Sites in supporting the building of e-portfolios, and based on the multimedia development process as well as the portfolios development process; the article proposes the application process of Google Sites constructing the e-portfolios in teaching. This process includes 4 stages: (1) Determining the context and purpose, (2) Designing the e-portfolios as a storage space, (3) Designing the e-portfolios as a learning space, (4) Designing the e-portfolios as a display space.

The representational competence, is one of the three core Chemical abilities. This ability needs to be prioritized in the the innovation need of education. Chemical exercises play an important role in developing this ability for students. In this topic, we target 3 core categories: (1) Examining representational competence status in several high schools in Quang Tri (2) Developing an improving representational competence exercise system targeting Organic Chemistry in 12th grade high school (3) Reutilize existing exercises that had currently been using, in order to improve representational competence on students. Research results show that developing the ability to apply representational competence for students when using chemistry exercises are very important role in teaching Chemistry in high schools.

STEM education has been selected and directed by the Ministry of Education and Training to educate students about the necessary competencies to meet the needs of human resources in the 21st century. The development of problem solving and creativity capacities for high school students is being carried out. The article introduces the process of developing and using the STEM theme "Growing organic vegetables at home" to develop problem solving and creativity capacities for 11th grade high school students. Experimental results at two high schools in Quang Ngai and Quang Tri provinces show that the implementation of this topic has contributed to the development of problem solving and creativity capacities for students. This study identifies the basic artistic characteristics of Sedang Todra ethnic’s the folk riddles. Using ethnographic fieldwork, customs and literary studies, the article examines the artistic and content values of the riddles. The content of the riddles is a treasure trove of valuable knowledge about the natural and social world in the Central Highlands. The art of riddle is unique with language rich in images and rhythms, showing subtle observation, associated with ethnic culture.

HOUSEHOLD PERCEPTION TOWARDS PAYMENT FOR FOREST ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES PROGRAM: A LUOI DISTRICT, THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE, VIETNAM

The Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) program has been implemented in A Lươi district, Thua Thien Hue Province since 2010. The household perception of PFES factors was investigated. A Luoi district was selected purposively because it had the largest PFES forest area. Data were obtained from a random sample of 80 households. The results indicated that factors of PFES management including equity; enforcement and monitoring; finance and livelihoods were perceived negatively by PFES households. In contrast, household perception of providing knowledge and skills, and electronic payment factors were positive. Therefore, it is essential for policymakers to have an adequate understanding the household perception of each PFES factor in order to craft more effective policies for the performance enhancement of the program.

The humanistic ecosystem in ancient gardens in Suzhou is an expression of ideas which are represented through tangible images (scenery) – symbols in order to recognize objective world as well as the real one. The existing watch points of famous gardens in Suzhou are created as a complete masterpiece of ink wash paintings involving different categories: yin and yang, movement and stillness, reality and fantasy that illustrates internal factors and artistic symbolism. Thanks to them, we partly understand philosophy of cosmology, outlook on life which are specialized in existing survival concept and worldview attitude throughout the Chinese cultural values, aesthetic tastes, and ethical norms.

FACTORS AFFECTING THE CAREER ORIENTATION OF STUDENTS AT SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM - HUE UNIVERSITY

Career orientation is the job characteristics that define a person's career goals that reflect an individual's self-concept about his or her values, interests, experiences, skills, and values. their self-perception. Career orientation reflects the view that intrinsic values ​​and self-direction are the driving force behind career decisions in an age of stable and borderless careers. This study conducted a survey of 115 students at the School of Tourism - Hue University to assess the influencing factors on students' career orientation. The results of the regression analysis show that the influencing factors affecting the career orientation of students at the School of Tourism - Hue University include Counseling of academic advisors, Support of family, Support of academic advisors, Self-attitudes and Parental orientation; 5 factors related to academic advisors and parents have 22.4% influence on students' career orientation, the rest are other factors, which shows the role of academic advisors and parents in shaping the career orientation of tourism students, thus some implications related to the career orientation of tourism students from the perspective of academic advisors and parents are proposed.

The research focuses on clarifying the achievements and limitations in educational innovation in Vietnam from 2013 to present. At the same time affirming the view that education and training is the leading national policy, the cause of the Party, State and the whole people; Investment in education is a development investment, given priority in socio-economic development programs and plans. Some remarkable results of education and training were surveyed, showing the efforts and efforts of the education and training sectors, the political system and the whole society in implementing the innovation process. this fundamental, comprehensive, extremely important. THE CURRENT STATUS OF PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY THROUGH LESSON STUDY AT PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN PHU NHUAN DISTRICT, HO CHI MINH CITY

Professional activity through lesson study is a teacher training model that is being widely applied worldwide. The study aims to examine the current status of performing lesson study at primary schools in Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh city. Participants included 184 primary school administrators and teachers. The survey results show that most managerial staffs and teachers acknowledged the role of professional activities through lesson study. Primary schools have implemented lesson study well and helped teachers improve their professional qualifications, thereby improving students’ learning outcomes. However, there was still a part of managers and teachers who have yet to see the need for professional activities through lesson study. The frequency of lesson study was less than the general requirement. The topics were still under the control of the Board of Directors and professional group leaders. A number of the teachers have not participated actively in lesson study.

The study aims to investigate the current status of experience-based teaching activities at primary schools in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province. A total of 194 managerial staffs and primary school teachers participated in the survey. Results show that most managerial staffs and primary school teachers have been aware of the role of experience-based learning activities. Primary schools have implemented experiential teaching in subjects. Methods of experience were diverse. However, some managerial staffs and teachers did not highly evaluate experience-based teaching. Some feature methods have yet to be widely applied. Teachers’ capacity of organizing experiential activities, testing, evaluating, and collaborating with social forces was fair and needs to be improved. Facilitating conditions were basically guaranteed; however, the budget was limited. Based on this current status, we proposed some solutions to improve the efficiency of experience-based teaching.

This article examines the current status of activities within professional groups at primary schools of Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. 56 managerial staffs and 150 teachers from 6 primary schools participated in this study. Results show that most managerial staffs and teachers were aware of the importance of professional group activities in primary schools; this matter has been focused on with various content and formats. However, there have been a number of managerial staffs and teachers not well aware of the position, function, mission, and role of professional groups. Some essential content and formats have not been emphasized. Based on the survey results, the authors proposed some solutions to enhance the quality of professional group activities in primary schools.

This article presents the current status of environmental education through experiential activities for students in primary schools in Phong Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province. Research results show that environmental education through experiential activities has achieved certain results. However, there are still limitations and inadequacies such as follows: the content was not close to the local environmental education practice; the method of environmental education through experiential activities has not been effective; test and evaluation criteria have not yet been established; the allocation of resources for environmental education through voluntary activities is still limited.

ASSESSMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH AMONG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN HO CHI MINH CITY

The study was conducted to better understand the realities of high school students’ mental health. This survey included 500 students from two high schools in Ho Chi Minh City. Students’ mental health was assessed using the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire 25 (SDQ 25). According to the SDQ 25 questionnaire results, 41.8% of the students had normal mental health, 36.8% were at borderline, and 26.6% fell into the abnormal category. Female students had higher levels of emotional problems than male students; 11th and 12th graders had higher levels of emotional problems than 10th graders, and 10th graders had higher levels of positive social issues than 11th grade students. Family economic status and academic achievement were negatively correlated with mental health. The results of the study supplement existing data on high school students’ mental health problems.

The General Education Program 2018 was born to meet the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive reform of Vietnamese education. The program requires renovation of educational objectives, contents, methods, forms of teaching and assessment of learning outcomes of subjects in general and of Nature and Society at primary school level in particular. In order to provide practical evidences for proposing measures to improve the quality of teaching Natural and Social subject, we have studied the current situation of teaching this subject in the primary schools in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province. Research results show that there are still goals, contents, methods and forms that have not been implemented regularly and have not achieved high efficiency.

Building school culture in preschools is a goal in the educational development strategy of education and training of the whole country, in general, and of education in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City, in particular. However, in order to have a basis to improve the quality of school culture building management in preschools, it is necessary to have surveys examining the current status of this work validly. Using the questionnaire method, the article presents research results to assess the current status of school culture building management in preschools of Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh city. This provides the practical basis to propose measures to manage school culture building in this region.
