THE IMPOTANCE OF ART IN STEAM EDUCATION

The art in STEAM education provides an opportunity to make the educational environment function more like the real-world by developing authentic connections between academic content and practice. With the art in the Steam, students can learn to solve real-world problems using cross-content skills and knowledge, enabling and strengthening their creative and innovative thinking. This practice clearly recognizes a real-world role of the arts in STEAM. The art helps students and educators explore, dialogue, problem solve, and experiential learning, STEAM becomes an effective educational method that helps students improve creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving, higher decision-making skills, better visual learning, increased interaction among students and aesthetic orientation. Thereby showing us the important role of art in the STEAM.

A STUDY ON TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES FOR LISTENING TESTS BY ENGLISH MAJORS

This study was conducted to explore the awareness of English majors from a university regarding their employment of test-taking strategies during listening tests and to identify their most frequently used test-taking strategies. Two hundred forty-two English majors participated in the study. The data were gathered through two main instruments: questionnaire and interview. The study's findings indicate that the majority of participants had a favorable attitude toward using test-taking strategies in four areas: test performance, listening comprehension, degree of concentration, and anxiety. It was also found that employing test-taking strategies had the most significant impact on students’ test performance among the four factors considered. Besides, metacognitive strategies were reported to be the most frequently used among the six groups of strategies that adhered to Oxford's (1996) taxonomy. However, students held an inconsistent view regarding the use of L1 during listening tests. Based on the findings of this study, some implications concerning test-taking strategies use were suggested for students taking listening tests.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is an interdisciplinary based approach that is oriented right from elementary school in the 2018 general education curriculum, contributing to the formation and development of students' quality and competency. Through theoretical analysis related to STEM education, new program content of Science and some other subjects in the 5th grade elementary curriculum, the article has built a process of designing lesson plans of STEM topics in teaching Science in primary school that include 2 stages and 5 steps. This topic contributes to enriching the data of interdisciplinary integrated topics, serving as a reference base to help teachers facilitate the selection and implementation of this topic as well as build a new integrated topic in primary school curriculum teaching.

The choice of a reasonable programming language in teaching introductory programming for students majoring in Information Technology at universities has been a hotly debated topic for many years. By the method of reviewing research documents, the article will analyze and evaluate related issues, taking into account the characteristics of teaching at universities in Vietnam. In addition, based on the frequency of the criteria appearing in the research documents, 20 typical criteria for language selection are mentioned and analyzed to guide the choice of languages in teaching programming.

The Ministry of Education set out vocational education for high school students many years ago [2]. One of the ways of education is teaching that integrates vocational education. Geography has many opportunities to conduct vocational education and is taught in high schools in Thua Thien Hue province but has not yet achieved high efficiency. Survey results in some schools show that there are still many problems to be solved in integrated teaching for vocational education through Geography, which are: (i) Determining the content of vocational education; (ii) Integration time; (iii) Means, methods, and forms of teaching organization; (iv) Specific guidelines in vocational education through Geography for teachers; (v) Enhancing students' career guidance needs. To improve the effectiveness of vocational education, it is necessary to apply some solutions in terms of content development, integrated plans, training, and exchange on methods and forms of integrated teaching organization for education.  One of the important goals of the secondary education program is to help pupils develop the qualities and competencies that has been formed and developed in the primary school, self-adjusts according to the general standards of society, knows how to apply active learning methods to complete foundational knowledge and skills. To achieve this goal, secondary school teachers in general and civic education teachers in particular need to pay attention to the development of core qualities and competencies for pupils. In which, for the civic education, the capacity, to adjust behavior is one of the three specific competencies that need to be developed for learners. The article focuses on proposing one of the measures to develop the capacity to adjust behavior for pupils through role-playing teaching method.

Education on Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty is one of the important contents in defense and security education included in the curriculum of students’ training program at Defense and Security Education Centre of Hue University. Building the systematic and scientific learning resources with question bank, online practice exercises and visual image materials on Vietnam’s sea and islands is a feasible and realistic solution to facilitate students to become enthusiastic during the learning process, regularly practice research skills to enrich their knowledge. The description of plans for e-learning resource exploitation and use to education on Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty for students of Hue University is also associated with the direction of innovation in teaching methods and techniques which are currently being applied in the Centre.

Behavioral culture is a system of culture, ideology, and awareness about the behavior relationship of each person or community towards the social, natural, and personal environment. This study aims to find out the current cultural behavior of students in high schools in Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province. A total of 339 students and 55 teachers from Phan Dang Luu High School and Dang Tran Con High School participated in the study by answering a survey. Research results show that the vast majority of students and teachers appreciate the role of behavioral culture in high schools. Most students perform well in behavioral culture through compliance with rules. The standard requirements on cultural behavior are agreed by teachers and students to a high degree. However, there are still manifestations of poor behavioral culture in students. Therefore, the author proposes some solutions to improve the culture of behavior for high school students in Hue city in the current period.

Know how to manage emotions, establish and maintain relationships with others, solve problems and make appropriate decisions is one of the keys to an individual's academic and life success. multiply. Children with hearing loss meet many limitations by disability, so they have lot of difficulties in solving social and personal problems than their peers. From 6 to 12 years old, they have many changes in psychology and physical, relationships, communication environment and prepare to enter puberty. So, pay attention and support to develop social-emotional competence for children in this period is very necessary. This article aims to synthesize, analyze and summarize studies related to the of social - emotional intervention in children with hearing loss aged 6 - 12 years old. From there, help us have a better overview of this issue and orientation for future research in Vietnam.

This study aims to estimate the impact of learning the practical internship on the training quality of students of the Faculty of Tourism and Vietnam studies, Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The results suggest that, equipping the work-integrated learning has a positive and significant impact on the initiative and discipline, and professional skills of students. This is the basis of reference for the school to continue to improve its curriculum, focusing on students, based on the interference of relationships between students, tourism training institutions, and tourism companies.

This study aims to analyze the influence of job satisfaction on employee loyalty in a hotel. This study applied a quantitative research method with a sample of 70 employees who have been working at Century Riverside hotel in Hue city. The research model is based on the inheritance of previous research findings, which has been adjusted to adapt to experimental with conditions in Vietnam. This study showed that four factors, namely "Income and welfare", “Working conditions”, “Relation with colleagues”, “Nature of work”, have a considerable impact on employee’s loyalty to the organization. This study also suggests some policy implications that could be useful advices for business managers in the hotel area.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS GRADUATING FROM FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND FOOD TECHNOLOGY, UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY, HUE UNIVERSITY: REAL SITUATION AND SUPPORTING SOLUTIONS

Over the years, along with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on open publishing situation of students’ employment after graduating, Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University always conducts assessment students’ employment situation after graduation of training disciplines at the faculty. This is also a way to listen to opinions from the related parties to improve the training quality and adjust the training program to meet the needs of business and society. The assessment result of students’ employment after graduation at many majors in the last 5 years (2015-2020) indicates that most of students who have jobs within the first year of graduation working in companies, private enterprises, joint stock or joint ventures or foreign companies; the percentage of students working in state-owned companies is very low. Working areas are concentrated in the South Central and Southern provinces, most of them do the right majors. All students feedback agreeing with the training program and wish to have a deeper connection between the Enterprise and the Faculty in the training and recruitment process in order to improve the quality and meet the needs of business and society. On the basis of the employment situation of graduated students from the Faculty of Engineering and Food Technology, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, the article proposed some solutions to help graduated students get a better job relating to their degrees.

THE SITUATION OF VERBAL ABUSE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THUA THIEN HUE PROVINCE

Verbal abuse in school has been identified as a commonplace component. Although it has negative consequences for the individual’s relationship and well-being, little attention has been diverted towards verbal abuse of children from researchers, educators as well as society. This article presents the current situation of verbal abuse of secondary school students at Thua Thien Hue province. 708 students from two secondary schools and two high schools in Thua Thien Hue province participated in answering the questionnaire. The survey shows that students employed verbal abuse at different levels. They often situated the most intense use of “use insults to soften the stubbornness”, “tell them they are unreasonable”, “lose my temper and say rather strong things to them”... There are differences in verbal abuse in terms of gender and age. In order to effectively verbal abuse prevention and intervention strategies, educators must partner with families and communities.

MENTAL HEALTH OF HUE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Mental health is a very important issue, whose impact on students’ learning, achievement and daily routines especially has been recognized by educational professionals.  This study aims to assess the current state of mental health among Hue University students. 515 students from Hue University of Education, Hue University voluntarily took part in the survey.  The mental health status of respondents was measured using The Life Satisfaction Scale and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Research results show that the percentage of students with signs of stress, anxiety, and depression is 51.84%, 81.55% and 57.09%. respectively. In which, students with severe to very severe signs of stress account for 7.96%; of anxiety 35.92% and of depression 8.55%. The results show that although the mean values ​​of depression, anxiety, and stress of female students are higher than that of male students, no significant gender differences are found in all three types of disorders. A significant number of of respondents (≈29%) appear to be dissatisfied with their lives. There are  no differences in the level of satisfaction with life between male and female students and between students from urban and rural areas. Some implications, limitations of the study are also discussed and recommendation are made for future research.

The article proposes some measures to educate the local traditional culture for preschool children. The methods used to establish the science and feasibility of the measure are: analysis, synthesis, system. Proposed measures include: Creation of local cultural heritage documents for preschool children's education, Establishment of local cultural education circles. These measures both ensure the inheritance and show the novelty of the article. Combining these measures will contribute to raising the awareness of preschool teachers about how to educate local culture in schools; from there towards the comprehensive development of children through local folk art works.

TEACHERS’ SCAFFOLDING IN TEACHING ENGLISH WRITING TO UNIVESRITY STUDENTS

The present article explored students’ responses to teachers’ scaffolding in the course English Writing. Participants were first-year students of English Faculty at a University of Foreign Languages. Specifically, 94 freshmen participated in the survey. Ten of them joined the following in-depth interview to have insights to the issues under investigation. Data were analyzed, synthesized following the sequential mixed-method. The findings reviewed that the application of scaffolding in English Writing was rather frequent. The teaching procedure included three steps instead of five. Therefore, the results were not very effective.
